January & Quarterly 2026 Newsletter

Dear Subscriber,

2026 marks a significant milestone as we move into the production phase of the Hudson Taylor movie. Our Board Chairperson, Dr Jennie Fung, invites us to reflect on the journey thus far and to anticipate the new work God is unfolding in our midst.  Come join us in giving thanks and praise for His past provision and in trusting Him for all He will accomplish in the year ahead.

Behold,

I Am Doing

a New Thing

By Jennie Fung

Board Chairperson, Half Crown Media

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert… to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.

Isaiah 43:19-21

As we enter a new year, 2026, God invites us to watch, to behold and perceive. He wants us to see what He is doing: a NEW thing. Things that we have not seen before. Things that defy our imagination or understanding. Things that demand we praise Him. I saw God’s work in the movie project and me. I continue to look in anticipation of greater work to come.

In 2010, a film maker challenged us to go beyond making a documentary, and instead produce a quality feature film on the life of Hudson Taylor, a movie about God’s work in an ordinary man who dared to trust Him. He also warned us that it would be like going into exile in the wilderness. People would doubt and criticize us. Support would be difficult to come by. Yet, it would be worth it. Millions will behold God’s love and power as they have never done before.

As we prepare for production this year, I feel like we are standing on the East bank of Jordan, itching to cross and enter the Promised Land. Yet in Isaiah 43, God was telling the Israelites exiled in Babylon that it would not be like before, when they crossed the Red Sea or the Jordan River. Instead, God is doing a new thing. He will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. He calls us to watch and observe His working.

God is reminding me that I cannot keep turning towards the past. Yes, He has provided miraculously at every stage of the project: providing the manpower, resources, finances, and His sustaining grace. We praise Him! These were our Red Sea and Jordan experiences: timely, relevant and effective. Yet we are not to focus on them, but keep our eyes on the provider, God himself. We want to behold what he does today and tomorrow.

As we see the production team come together, we are amazed by how God brought film professionals from diverse backgrounds to unite towards the same goal: that the people might declare my praise.

We value your prayers for that unity. Making a movie is a highly emotional, complex process. To work well as a culturally diverse team multiplies the challenge. Yet we are “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:3)

Please also pray for wisdom from above that is pure, peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. (James 3:17) We need such wisdom as we relate to the studio, crew, talents and decide on various aspects of the production.

And most of all, we need God’s favour. Only He can open doors to the suitable shooting locations. He alone knows who should be on the team and make it possible for them to join us. He watches over the weather and protects us from possible harms. And above all else, only He can make the movie truly impactful, speaking to the heart of our audience.

We look forward to the day when the movie is made and we look back to see God’s goodness. Together, we will declare His praise.

Latest Prayer Updates

Last month, we shared about the challenge of meeting the bi-cultural and bi-lingual requirements needed to form a production team and cast that can tell the story of Hudson and Maria Taylor in a compelling and authentic way. God has heard your prayers. He has brought to us film professionals from diverse cultural & linguistic backgrounds. Their humility and willingness to work together hugely encourage us.

We give thanks for answered prayers:

  • The latest revision of the screenplay has strengthened the narrative depth and emotional arc and has received very positive feedback. One industry contact shared that she was moved to tears multiple times, even when she was only halfway through the script.

  • Discussions regarding the producer’s contract were smooth and constructive. We signed the Production Service Agreement just before the Christmas break, and we are thankful that both parties are motivated and mindful of the Kingdom’s work.

  • God has sent us good candidates for the director selection process.  We are thankful for His provision.

Prayer Requests

  • God’s protection and sustaining grace for team members, supporters, and their family members. Pray for treatment and healing for those facing health challenges.
  • Director selection process has seen God’s guidance. Pray for ongoing discussion and confirmation of the best fit.
  • Unity and God-honoring teamwork – Pray for God’s guidance in appointing the right director, lead actors, & crew, and for the formation of a God-honoring, multi-cultural team in the next few months.
  • Shooting location in Asia – Pray for the scouting trip in February to being fruitful and productive, in planning the budget and schedule, permit applications and relationship building.
  • God’s wisdom & favor in every decision, and for His blessing & guidance at every step. May everyone involved—team members, supporters, donors—grow closer to God through this journey.
