If I had a thousand pounds, China should have it. If I had a thousand lives, China should have them. No! not China, but Christ. Can we do too much for Him? Can we do enough for such a precious
Savior?
Let us give up our work, our thoughts, our plans, ourselves, our lives, our loved ones, our influence, our all, right into His hand, and then, when we have given all over to Him, there will be nothing left for us to be troubled about.
To know and to do His will – this is our safety; this is our rest.
When you can serve the King of kings, why stoop to serve the king of England?

You can work without praying, but it is a bad plan; but you cannot pray in earnest without working. Do not be so busy with work for Christ that you have no strength left for praying. True prayer requires strength.
We have been trying, unsuccessfully, for ten years. We’ve been beaten, stoned, and turned back time and again. Brother, if you would enter that province, you must go forward on your knees!
It is not lost time to wait upon God!
When I get to China, I shall have no claim on anyone for anything; my only claim will be on God. How important, therefore, to learn before leaving England to move men, through God, by prayer alone.
Hold God’s faithfulness. (Have Faith in God)
If you are simply obeying the LORD, all the responsibility will rest on Him, not on you! What a relief!
One difficulty follows another very fast
– but God reigns, not chance.
How easy it is with money in the pocket and food in the cupboard to think that one has faith. We need a faith that rest on a great God, and which expects Him to keep His own word and to do just what He promised.
You do not know what lies before you. I give you one word of advice: Walk with the Lord! Count on Him, enjoy Him!
Depend upon it; God’s work done in God’s way will NEVER LACK GOD’S SUPPLIES.
I have found that there are three stages in every great work of God: first, it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done.
A little thing is a little thing, but FAITHFULNESS IN LITTLE THINGS is a great thing.

We wish to see Christian Chinese men and women, true Christian, but withal true Chinese in every sense of the word.
Let us in everything not sinful become Chinese, that by all means we may win some… Knives and forks, plates and dishes, cups and saucers must give place to chopsticks, native spoons and basins.
Oh! for eloquence to plead the cause of China; for a pencil dipped in fire to paint the condition of this people.
It is far greater triumph for Christ to put a man right than to get rid of him. Though we cannot scold them right, we may often love them into right.
